Author Question Time!!
1. Who is your favorite character from your newest release? And why? That would be Casey Barnes from Ghost of a Chance. He's had some hard knocks but he hasn't let them get him down. He's a former agent of the elite paranormal firm, Redclaw Security, but he's a bit of a cinnamon roll. He rescued a horse from the slaughterhouse and he's an all-around good guy.
2. How do you balance work and home life? That's a tough one! I'm not sure I do such a good job there. I work long hours and sometimes it's hard to find the energy at the end of the day to get the dogs out or work on the latest story. I'm trying to spend less time online, and making a point to meditate, read, and take long walks in the woods with the dogs. Disconnecting from social media helps me tune into my stories better too!
3. First Paranormal romance book you read? Probably J.D. Ward's Dark Lover. Once you have a taste of paranormal, everything else seems tame by comparison!
4. Do you Google yourself? If so did you laugh or find it interesting? I have. It's a pretty short page. I guess I need to be more exciting!
5. How do you select the names of your characters? Most of the time the names just come to me. Sometimes I pull names from passing street signs or businesses. If a character is of a certain nationality, I'll look up names according to the part of the world they're from. I've also held contests on my website to name heroes.
6. If you didn’t write, what would you do for work? I would love to own an used bookstore. I can't think of a better way to spend the day than to be surrounded by books and help people find something they will love.
7. What is your writing Kryptonite? I adore snowed in stories, home for the holiday stories, and fake boyfriends. Give me some sparkage with opposites attract, or some witty banter like the first couple of seasons of Castle, and I'm hooked.
8. Who are you reading now? I'm currently reading books for the 2018 RITA awards, so I can't say.
9. Do you have a special playlist for writing? Not for writing but definitely for brainstorming. I prefer to write in silence (or if anything, some non-specific New Age stuff that won't distract me) but for brainstorming, I have several playlists that I'll listen to depending on what I'm writing. I do playlists for books and characters both, and listen to them when I'm plotting sequels or the next in the series.
10. Last, if you could go back before you published your first book and do it all over again, would you? All the hard parts and easy strides. If I had to do it again, I might have waited until I had several books to release at once. I tend to write slowly (a book a year) so it might have been better to have a couple of titles out there within a few months of each other, but I'm not that patient!
